IndieRE #180 by Radio Študent Ljubljana
The new IndieRE radio broadcast prepared by Radio Študent from Ljubljana, Slovenia will feature the post-folk rock band Katalena, marking their 25th anniversary of existence which includes a brand new album called Meja released by Radio Študent's in-house record label ZARŠ. We also feature another acclaimed artist Damir Avdić who has released his a new album Sve je u redu on Kapital Records. Avdić who is also a writer usually creates and performs solo and with his music provides deep social commentary focusing on everything from the Balkan war and genocide to more contemporary issues such as the manosphere and the rise of populism in Europe.
Then we shed the spotlight on another ZARŠ release, the compilation Kaboom!, released as a part of this years' Tresk festival. Tresk festival is organized annually by Radio Študent and is the only Slovenian festival focused on bringing together smaller independent record labels. It features a broad programme including panel discussions, workshops, concerts and club events alongside an awards ceremony for music adjacent visual arts that this year for the first time also extended to original sound design works. Selected artists featured on the compilation create in the DIY milieu of field recordings, ambiental, internet and noise music.
On this note we continue with REIO or Rotterdam Electronic Improv Orchestra, a group based in Rotterdam led by a Slovenian percussionist and composer Elvis Homan. The ensemble just released their second album titled Complex 2 which combines features of contemporary classical composition and jazz improvisation laced with heavy use of electronic instruments and processing. Continuing with jazz we also feature the composer and double-bass player Robert Jukič, who resides in Brussels and has released his new and very eclectic record We All Bleed on his own label Real Over Junk. The music follows a narrative of a man adventuring in a city from dusk till dawn, experiencing a wide array of thoughts and emotions based on episodic events. We include the 180th episode of IndieRE with the music by Ikya and their debut album Tengam released on their self-owned label Eremit and subsidized time. The duo consists of ᵐ ᵖʳᵉⁱˢ and Janu Krohm and operates between Ljubljana and Berlin. Their album is filled with sound explorations that reflect first person artistic research of relationships.
